PRACTICAL GUIDES

Comparing demolition quotes

Compare quotations against the same removal boundary. A lower total can include fewer layers, protective measures, waste arrangements or repairs. Ask for identifiable work items and clear extra-work terms.

Scope and quantities

Compare components, surfaces and layer depths, not just room names or floor area. State what remains and the condition expected by the next contractor.

Protection, transport and waste

Check access protection, extraction arrangements, floor level and collection. Waste disposal is not automatically included because a proposal mentions demolition.

Structure, services and repairs

Engineer’s work, temporary support, steel, isolation and reinstatement need explicit boundaries. Agree who approves changes when concealed conditions differ from the information supplied.

Preparation at a glance

  • Use one component list for all quotations.
  • Identify included protection and collection.
  • Check repair boundaries and variation terms.

Frequently asked question

Is a rate per square metre enough to compare quotes?

No. Materials, layers, access and handover conditions must also be comparable.
